Which is Connecticut’s healthiest county? Well, it’s not us

A new report ranks Connecticut counties in order of healthiest — and you’ll never guess who isn’t at the top.

Fairfield County finds its way to the top of lists on a pretty regular basis (Best communities for weight loss; undervalued homes; age at which people are getting married… the list goes on) but when it comes to the healthiest spot in the state, The FC was snubbed.

Sure, Fairfield County ranked No. 1 of the state’s eight counties for health behaviors, with smoking and obesity rates below national averages. But long commuted and “severe housing problems” place the county in the bottom of the barrel for the physical environment portion of the rubric.     It’s so hard to find public space where you can ride your bike or walk your dog. Everthing is privately owned. Stop building condos everywhere and make some parks.
