About the Band

|

The Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching Band is a nationally recognized marching band consisting of 104 musicians, 25 color guard performers, and one drum major.  It is the largest program at the high school. The Band Director is Peter Horton and the Assistant Band Directors are Tom Whitmoyer and Carman Dragone.

During the winter, the marching band splits into three programs: World Winter Guard, Winter Percussion, and Jazz Band. We are proud of these units’ performance.

In 2007 the World Winter Guard took first place in World Class MAC state competition; in 2008 they took second place. Promoted in 2006, the World Winter Guard is one of 23 units that compete at the highest level of World Guard International (WGI) competition. Competing in this world class for the first time in 2007 they placed 10th in the world. In 2008 they placed 16th.

The Winter Percussion ensemble, which has only existed for six years, was undefeated and first place state champions in MAC competition in 2007 and 2008. It has been a finalist in all of its three appearances in WGI scholastic open world competition. In 2008 the ensemble placed second worldwide competing against 41 units.

The Jazz Band performs at local festivals where their performance is assessed. They also perform at worthy causes such as the Relay for Life. Band alumni perform in some of the nation’s most prestigious university marching bands including the University of Connecticut, the University of Massachusetts, Cornell University, and Syracuse University.
