UConn target Xavier Rathan Mayes cuts list to 10

by:

Canadian shooting guard Xavier Rathan Mayes, one of UConn’s top 2013 targets, announced his top 10 schools Wednesday afternoon, trimming nearly 30 from his list of offers.

And UConn made the cut!!

No surprise here. Rathan Mayes, ranked 21st by ESPN in the class of 2013, raved about the Huskies (and specifically Kevin Ollie) during an interview with Hearst Connecticut Media Group last month. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard also listed Baylor, Alabama, Florida State, Kentucky, Kansas, Illinois, Memphis, Texas and UCLA. He said he’ll visit Kentucky Friday.

In addition to Rathan Mayes, UConn isĀ  targeting 2013 shooting guards Isaac Hamilton, Wayne Selden Jr., Davon Reed, Reggie Cameron and Josh Hart. Connecticut native Kuran Iverson could also be in the mix.

*According to Scout.com, point guard Roddy Peters announced his top six Wednesday: Maryland, Georgetown, Memphis, Rutgers, UCLA and Xavier. UConn had been recruiting the 6-foot-4 Peters.

The Huskies, almost certain to sign a point guard for the 2013 class, are chasing Terrence Samuel (down to UConn, Pitt, Dayton, Rhode Island, per New York Post); Tahj Shamsid-Deen (UConn, Auburn, Butler, Richmond and Harvard, per Scout.com); Stevie Clark (UConn, Missouri, Florida State, Oklahoma State and UCLA, per CBS Sports); and Wes Clark.
