While Jim Calhoun’s future remains a mystery, the UConn coaching staff continues a busy offseason of recruiting.
Xavier Rathan Mayes, one of the team’s top targets for the class of 2013, told Hearst Connecticut Media Group that UConn will drop by his Ontario home on Wednesday. The visit was initially penciled in for Friday, but the Huskies re-scheduled. Rathan Mayes also said the staff met with his mother Monday.
A creative scorer with a high ceiling, the 6-foot-3 Rathan Mayes recently cut his list to UConn, Illinois, Florida State, Baylor and Texas. He made an unofficial to Florida State last weekend, and Baylor wasted no time in setting up a home visit with Rathan Mayes (the coaching staff was in Canada Sunday, according to Scout.com).
Rathan Mayes did not know if Calhoun would be present Wednesday.
UConn has already landed commitments from two of its top targets, 6-foot-9 forward Kentan Facey and 6-foot-3 guard Terrence Samuel. Rathan Mayes would be the jewel of a solid recruiting class if he decides to spend his college years in Storrs.
