Recruiting Roundup: October 19

There have been some significant changes since we last checked on UConn’s 2013 recruiting.

For one, top target Xavier Rathan Mayes chose Florida State over UConn and Illinois. The Huskies have two 2013 commitments — Kentan Facey and Terrence Samuel — and are looking to secure a few more. Here’s a look at recent news:

*Former Penn State commit Brandon Austin, a 6-foot-6 swingman  ranked No. 72 overall by Rivals.com, will visit UConn this weekend, according to SNY’s Adam Zagoria. Austin was at Providence last weekend.

*Noah Vonleh, a versatile top 10 prospect, cut his list to UConn, Georgetown, Indiana, North Carolina, Syracuse and Ohio State, according to Adam Zagoria of SNY.

*UConn assistant Glen Miller spent Wednesday in New Hampshire visiting the Brewster Academy duo of Jarred Terrell (2014) and Ron Patterson (2013), who was ruled ineligible at Indiana, his original destination. Patterson, a well-built 6-foot-3 guard, has interest from many high major schools, including Syracuse.

*UConn assistant Karl Hobbs visited Long Beach forward Jordan Bell in early October. An elite shotblocker who runs the floor and pounds the boards, Bell has narrowed his choices to UConn, Alabama, Auburn and Kansas State. All four have offered, per to Coast2CoastHoops.com.
