Updates: UConn and conference realignment

by:

There’s nothing new (technically) on the conference realignment front, but there are quite a few rumors floating around on the web. The UConn camp has been tight-lipped about this whole thing.

Check the links below from Monday:

*16 ACC teams unlikely — CBSSports.com’s Jeremy Fowler

Story highlights: “A prominent official from an ACC school told me Louisville and UConn both have something to offer but stressed academics will matter to presidents. This favors UConn, widely considered a top-75 national university. The Hartford area also is larger than Louisville’s, but the Cardinals have a strong football/basketball product and aggressive AD Tom Jurich.”

*Big Ten expansion a money game — Crain’s Detroit Business

Story highlights: The Big Ten Conference may not be done expanding, and that’s OK with University of Michigan Athletic Director David Brandon. “I think there could be further expansion in a number of conferences,” he said.

UConn drops out of polls

by:

This isn’t a shocker, but UConn fell out of the national rankings following last Monday’s loss to New Mexico in the Paradise Jam championship.

The Lobos, who remain unbeaten, cracked the poll at No. 25. Fun note: UCLA, which was humiliated at home versus Cal-Poly late Sunday night, dropped out of the AP top 25, but still was voted No. 24 in the coaches’ poll. I guess a few coaches had already sent their ballot when the Bruins blew an 18-point second half lead.

UConn (5-1) is third in the “also receiving votes” category of both polls. Here’s the AP:
