NEW Y ORK — Shabazz Napier scored 15 points in the first half — including 10 in the first five minutes — to pace UConn Tuesday night versus N.C. State.
The Huskies (6-1) led for most of the first half, but fell behind 32-31 on a last-second runner from Wolfpack guard Lorenzo Brown.
Napier, who entered with just 17 first half points in his last six games, buried a trio of 3-pointers in the opening minutes. Soon after, DeAndre Daniels and Omar Calhoun added longballs of their own, and UConn jumped out to a 20-9 advantage.
Napier didn’t score again until the 4:49 mark of the second half, burying a step-back jumper that broke a 24-24 tie.
N.C. State forward C.J. Leslie scored seven points and grabbed eight boards in the first half.
