Q: Who will have the better NBA career — A.J. Price or Shabazz Napier?

A: First of all, love the question. Probably the best UConn question I’ve been asked this year. So here’s my take: We’ll have to see how Big East play goes, but at the moment, A.J. Price is the better college player. Price was an efficient scorer (he shot 40 percent from 3-point range as a senior) and led the Huskies with 14.7 points and 4.7 assists per game. He was a tremendous leader, too, which often goes overlooked.

That said, Shabazz Napier has been great through nine games. Although he only scored six points versus Harvard, Napier completely dominated the second half. DeAndre Daniels kept the Huskies in the game, and Napier (team-high seven rebounds, nine assists and four steals) was the catalyst for UConn’s late spurt.

If you want to compare the two at the NBA level, I give Napier the slight edge. He’s much more fluid than Price, who is averaging 9.1 points and 5.2 assists as the Wizards’ replacement for an injured John Wall.  Napier is quicker, capable of scoring in more ways. Price is more physical and, at least right now, fractionally better as a spot-up shooter. I think both will have careers as back-ups in the NBA, but Napier’s creativity and fluidity makes him a better prospect.

There were two stories Friday: Shabazz Napier’s ability to affect the game despite a 2-for-7 shooting night and DeAndre Daniels’ career-high 23 points on a bad back.

At one point, Daniels had 23 of UConn’s 37.

“DeAndre is a player and DeAndre just has to have that confidence to take it to the rim and be aggressive,” said UConn coach Kevin Ollie. “He’s so long. One time he looked like he was Dr. J: he went under the rim, under the backboard and made a scoop shot.”

*Ollie on Enosch Wolf starting: “It’s just switching things up. Enosch deserves to start because he’s been playing well. He’s been playing in key moments for us. I told Tyler just to fight to get that position back, because it’s not etched in stone that he’s the starter. I go by feel, by effort and by production.”

*Harvard coach Tommy Amaker on DeAndre Daniels: “He was a tough match-up for us. He seems to be a very versatile player. We’ve also been seeing and hearing that they wanted to get more from him. He certainly looked like he delivered tonight.”

*UConn was beat on the boards again, but the Huskies forced 19 turnovers. Probably the best defensive game we’ve seen to date.

*R.J. Evans played just nine minutes, a season-low. The Huskies didn’t get much from Omar Calhoun, either. After a solid five-game stretch, Calhoun now has five points on 1-for-11 shooting over his last two. Calhoun is super-talented, but he’s clearly inconsistent, as are most other freshmen.
