UConn picked the right game to host 2014 studs Jared Terrell and Abdul Malik Abu, teammates of the Boston-based Expressions Elite AAU team.
The Huskies put on a show in the first half Friday versus Fordham, jumping out to a 29-point halftime lead before they coasted to an 88-73 victory.
Terrell, a well-built 6-foot-4, 225-pound shooting guard, and Abu, a muscular 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward, addressed the unofficial visit on Adam Zagoria’s SNY blog.
Some notable quotes from Zagoria’s blog and video highlights of each player:
Abu: “Meeting Jim Calhoun and Coach [Kevin] Ollie was a good experience. They made UConn feel like home and they seem to have big plans for the future, that I maybe can one day be a part of. They told myself and Jared that they would like us both to become Huskies. Me and Jared spoke about it and UConn will be an option for 2014.”
Terrell: “After the game, we went into the locker room to meet the coaches. Coach [Jim] Calhoun was in there as well. He spoke about the program and how we could help UConn. They spoke about family and how they all stick together and if we needed to speak to Kemba Walker or Ray Allen, they were only a phone call away.
I also had a conversation with Coach [Kevin] Ollie about how they really want me and how the program is going to be improving. But he said that they were going to need talent to take care of business and I am the type of player they need along with Malik. Me and Abdul spoke after the game and UConn will be an option when the time comes.”
