Shabazz Napier (foot) is expected back on the court this week and UConn head coach Kevin Ollie said Tyler Olander (foot) and Omar Calhoun (hips) are also healing well from off-season surgeries.
“I think we will be on full blast come August, September,” Ollie said after finishing his round with pro Jonas Blixt and AD Warde Manuel in the Travelers Celebrity Pro-Am Wednesday at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell. “I’m looking forward to next season.”
Ollie said Olander is about a month away while he put Calhoun’s return about “a month and half” away. Ollie also left the door open for the return of center Enosch Wolf saying “I don’t have a time table. I wish him the best of luck. We’ll have him come back if he wants to come back.”.
Ollie also said Wednesday that the Huskies will play Boston University and Detroit in the opening games of the 2K Classic, which also includes the BC game at Madison Square Garden. UConn also has non-league games with Yale and Eastern Washington. According to a source, Loyola, Md. is also on the non-league schedule.
“Pretty much our out of conference schedule is complete, ESPN is still kind of doing some jostling to get some different games, so a day or two might switch,” Ollie said. “Overall we have all our opponents we are going to play.”
