After months of speculation, it appears UConn-to-Bridgeport will become official.

According to a report from our Chris Elsberry, the men’s and women’s basketball teams are expected to play one game each in Webster Bank Arena this upcoming season.

Both games are expected to be in January when students are home for break, and both are expected to be against AAC opponents.

Some quotes from UConn on the subject:

*Geno Auriemma in May: “My own personal opinion is we can sit where we are and have people come to us or we can take another step and go to where they are. And I’m a firm believer that’s a good way to sell our product. It’s a good way to expose who we are and continue to grow our brand.”

*Jim Calhoun in March: “I’m very supportive of it. Getting us around the state, I think it would be a very good idea so the (FairfieldCounty residents) don’t have to worry about driving two hours or weather or those things.”

*Warde Manuel in March: “The two main places we’re going to play basketball are Gampel and XL. I don’t want any of our season ticket holders at either location to think we’re moving massive amounts of games anywhere. But where we can, and if it makes sense for us to take games to our fans in different parts of our state, then we’ll do it. But we have to work out all the details prior to solidifying it and making any announcements.”
