Sam Cassell Jr.’s next stop is UConn.
The point guard, who is the son of former NBA guard Sam Cassell, tweeted this morning “blessed to say I have committed to the university of Connecticut.” Cassell will join the Huskies next season, with UConn reportedly beating out ACC-bound Louisville for the JUCO player’s services.
Another new Husky, guard Rodney Purvis, who is sitting out this season after transferring from North Carolian State, is already looking forward to Cassell’s arrival.
@sam2ss2ll just joined the family,” Purvis tweeted. “Happy my bro finally a husky, welcome him to the backcourt club lol !!!”
The Huskies figure to need some additional guard help with senior Shabazz Napier entering his final season and junior Ryan Boatright possibly leaving early for the NBA. Cassell will join a deep backcourt that figures to include Purvis, Terrence Samuel, and Omar Calhoun.
Cassell Jr., who is playing for Chipola College (junior college), originally committed to Maryland last year, but the NCAA ruled he was academically ineligible after some credits from Notre Dame Prep (Mass.) were not accepted.
