Huskies remain out of both polls

Despite wins over Harvard and the University of Central Florida, the UConn men failed to return to either poll this week. The Huskies (13-3, 1-2) received 35 votes in the Associated Press Poll – which would place them 29th – but had only eight votes in the USA Today poll. Louisville, Memphis and Cincinnati are the only teams from the American Athletic Conference to make the top 25, and did so in both polls.

Louisville: 14th (USA), 18th (AP)

Memphis: 17th in both polls

Cincinnati cracked the rankings at 23rd (USA) and 19th (AP) as The American’s only unbeaten team in conference play (4-0).

In related news, freshman Amida Brimah was named the rookie of the week in the AAC after his 20-point, eight-rebound and four-block game against Central Florida. Senior guard Shabazz Napier was on the conference’s honor roll again.

Why so much emphasis on where UCONN or any other team is in the weekly polls? To be honest, I could care less. I don’t feel that UCONN belongs in the top 20 and I hate to so say it, but after their next two games, it will be more obvious that they should not be highly-ranked. Hopefully by the next time they play Memphis and Louisville here in CT, they will have improved and may deserve some recognition.
