UConn notebook: ‘Uncle Cliffy’ on Survivor; Napier on midseason Wooden list

Uncle Cliffy is returning to the spotlight.
Former UConn star Cliff Robinson, who spend 18 seasons in the NBA with five teams, is one of 18 contestants on Survivor: Cagayan, which premieres with a two-hour episode on Feb. 26 on CBS (8 p.m.). Robinson played at UConn from 1985-89 before heading to the NBA where he  played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors and New Jersey Nets.

Robinson will be on the brawn tribe fpr the competition, which was filmed last July and August. Miami Marlins president David Samson is also competing.

NAPIER MAKES THE CUT: Senior guard Shabazz Napier has been named to the Midseason Top 25 for the John R. Wooden Award, presented annually to college basketball’s top player. He was one of 25 players chosen.

Napier has led the Huskies to a 15-4 start this season, leading the team in scoring (17.4), rebounding (6.2), assists (5.9), steals (1.9), and minutes played (34.5).  He is also on watch lists for the Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award, the 2013-14 Senior CLASS Award, the Oscar Robertson Trophy, and the Naismith Trophy.

UConn returns to action Saturday at Rutgers (7 p.m.)
