The ConnCast: Season Wrap-Up

by:

Two months have passed, but the ConnCast is back.

On this episode, Chris Brodeur and I discuss the end of UConn’s 2012-13 season. There were some players who surpassed expectation, and others who didn’t. We hit on a little bit of everything, including (of course) the NBA Draft talk. To be clear, my stance there is as follows: DeAndre Daniels and Ryan Boatright should NOT go pro. I’m also not advocating that Shabazz Napier definitely should, but I’d understand if he chose that route.

Podcast with Aaron Torres Sports

by:

I caught up with Aaron Torres, who runs a popular college sports site, for a Huskies podcast earlier this week.

Aaron and I discuss everything from Kevin Ollie to conference realignment’s effect on recruiting to DeAndre Daniels, a gifted player who has been rather inconsistent thus far.

You can access the podcast here. And you can give Aaron, a UConn Daily Campus alum, a follow on Twitter @Aaron_Torres.

The ConnCast: Calhoun, Ollie’s extension and…Homeland!

by:

Jim Calhoun (AP)

In this week’s ConnCast, Chris Brodeur and I discuss Jim Calhoun’s post-retirement life and Kevin Ollie’s contract extension (in between my coughing and sneezing).

Calhoun touched on a number of topics — hisĀ  aspirations for the future and the crumbling of the Big East among them — during an interview with Hearst Connecticut last week. You can read the story here.

Although I couldn’t squeeze this into the article, I’d like to point out that Calhoun admitted to being a dedicated Homeland fan. I believe he used the word “riveting.” We discuss Homeland and a few other Calhoun matters in 20 equally-riveting minutes below.

The ConnCast: Napier vs. Price, Kemba vs. Ben Gordon and more

by:

Sparked by last week’s question regarding the professional careers of Shabazz Napier and A.J. Price, we examine similar scenarios in this week’s ConnCast.

The News-Times’ Chris Brodeur and I debate the following topics: Better pro career — Napier or Price? Hasheem Thabeet or Alex Oriakhi? Kemba Walker or Ben Gordon? Andre Drummond or Emeka Okafor?

We also discuss the worst free throw of all-time. As a miserable free throw shooter, I feel for the guy. Still can’t come up with a semi-reasonable explanation for that “shot,” though.

If you’re on the website, listen below. If you’re on a smartphone, you can access the ConnCast here.

The ConnCast: Realignment, UConn hoops, Ollie-isms

by:

November came and went with no ConnCast, but we wade sure December wouldn’t pass by, too.

After a month off, co-host Chris Brodeur and I had plenty of ground to cover. We talk conference realignment, UConn’s biggest surprises through seven games and our favorite “Ollie-isms.”

ConnCast: Predictions for 2012-13

by:

The ConnCast has made a triumphant return.

After a month off, News-Times writer Chris Brodeur and I hit the airwaves with a two-part edition of our UConn basketball podcast. We address quite a few topics: What are some realistic expectations for the season? Who is the X-Factor? What does Kevin Ollie need to do to retain his job?

Aside from a noticeable voice crack (“DIRty program”), a terrible intro song and a technical malfunction that forced the episode to be split in two parts, I’d say this was our best ConnCast yet.

Bold, right?

Wait till you listen. It gets way bolder (or is it more bold?). Either way, enjoy.

The ConnCast: Calhoun’s retirement, Ollie’s future

by:

Before we get into this week’s ConnCast, a few items of note:

*UConn’s top 2013 commit, Kentan Facey, told Hearst Connecticut that he will “honor the commitment with coach Ollie as head coach.” His AAU teammate, Terrence Samuel, said that Calhoun’s retirement does not affect his commitment to UConn.

*Hartford swingman Kuran Iverson has narrowed his list to Florida and Memphis. Word is UConn stopped recruiting Iverson weeks ago.

*According to Coast2CoastHoops.com, UConn coach Kevin Ollie and assistant Karl Hobbs made a visit Monday to see top target Xavier Rathan Mayes.

And now your ConnCast. Enjoy…

The ConnCast: Penn State and Summer Hoops

by:

Well, we completely forgot to address The Dark Knight Rises. And that was supposed to the lead topic. Shucks.

Instead, Chris Brodeur and I discuss the Penn State penalties and a variety of summer basketball topics: UConn recruiting, the NBA Summer League and the Hartford Pro-Am, where WestConn’s DaQuan Brooks dropped 50 in a game this past weekend.

Give us a listen below (by the way, it took about a half-hour to settle on an intro song).
