Huskies to lose home football game as San Diego State bolts Big East

The UConn Huskies just had a date open up on their 2013 football schedule. A scheduled home game with San Diego State has vanished now that the Aztecs have decided to return to the Mountain West Conference.

Home games include: Towson (Aug. 29), Maryland (Sept. 14), Michigan (Sept. 21), along with South Florida, Louisville and Rutgers.

Road conference games for the Huskies will be Central Florida, Cincinnati, SMU and Temple. UConn’s lone non-conference road game will be at Buffalo (Sept. 28).

Here’s the release on San Diego State’s return.

San Diego State is expected to be reinstated as a member of the Mountain West Conference as early as today, according to industry sources.

The Aztecs were scheduled to join the Big East on July 1 as a football-only member and the Big West in all other sports, but instead, it will remain a member of the Mountain West in all sports.

San Diego State’s decision to remain in the MWC comes on the heels of Boise State’s Dec. 31 decision to remain in the MWC and not join the Big East as a football-only member.

With SDSU remaining in the league, the MWC will have 12 football members this fall — Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah State and Wyoming.
