Matakevich named to AAC weekly honor roll

The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors for the fifth week of the college football season.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
John O’Korn • Fr. • QB • Houston • Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

O’Korn led Houston to a 59-28 win at UTSA, helping the Cougars improve to 4-0 for the eighth time in program history. Making his second career start, O’Korn completed 24 of 36 passes for 312 yards and four touchdowns, including a pair of fourth-quarter TDs as part of the Cougars’ 28-0 run to close the game. For the season, the true freshman has completed 73 of 115 passes (63.5 percent) for 933 yards and 10 touchdowns and just one interception.

William Jackson • So. • CB • Houston • Houston, Texas

Jackson had six tackles and a forced fumble before he iced Houston’s 59-28 win at UTSA with a 96-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. The interception return is the second-longest by an FBS player this season and it was Houston’s American Athletic Conference-leading eighth interception of the season.

Brandon Wilson • Fr. • CB • Houston • Shreveport, La.

Wilson returned a blocked field goal 78 yards for a touchdown to extend Houston lead to 31-21 in the third quarter of the Cougars’ 59-28 win at UTSA. The return helped break open what had been a three-point game as Houston outscored UTSA 35-7 in the final 18:11.

Blocked a field goal that would have tied the score in the third quarter and had an interception in a 59-28 win at UTSA.

Marcus Shaw • Jr. • RB • USF • Arcadia, Fla.
Rushed for a game-high 127 yards on 20 carries in a 49-21 loss to No. 15/15 Miami (Fla.). Had 100 yards by halftime for the third time in four games.

Tyler Matakevich • So. • LB • Temple • Stratford, Conn.
Had a school-record 24 tackles with two tackles for loss in a 26-24 loss at Idaho.
