Road conditions worsen; accidents on the rise

Road conditions are rapidly going downhill. And it’s going to get worse as the snow storm picks up strength.

Several inches of slick, heavy snow have already fallen across southwestern Connecticut resulting in numerous spin outs, according to state and local police.

Early this afternoon, travel speeds on Route 8 from Bridgeport to the Naugatuck Valley averaged less than 40 mph with visibility rapidly decreasing.

After the snow increased around noon, there was a tractor-trailer truck overturned on I-84 in Waterbury, a motor vehicle crash between exit 4 and 5 in Greenwich and another tractor-trailer down an embankment in Branford near Exit 56 on I-95.

The state Department of Transportation has an ongoing update of traffic accidents across Connecticut. Check it out here.
