NWS: Heat index could soar to 110 Thursday

It will be another scorcher of a day with hazy, hot and humid conditions.

And it looks like the fourth heat wave of the season could last into Saturday.

In its hazardous weather advisory, The National Weather Service says:

THERE IS THE CHANCE THAT HEAT INDICES COULD REACH 105 TO 110 DEGREES FOR AT LEAST A COUPLE OF HOURS FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

Today, temperatures will soar again into the 90s with high humidity  and a 100 degree heat index.

The Bridgeport/Stratford area broke a record temperature on Tuesday when it hit 95 degrees at the National Weather Service data station at Sikorsky Memorial Airport.

The previous record was 94 degrees set in 1952 and 1982. New Haven also hit 95 degrees on Tuesday.

It will be a few degrees cooler along the shore today; winds will be from the south cooled slightly by Long Island Sound. Yesterday, winds from the northwest blew hot interior temperatures down to the coast.

Here’s the forecast:

Today: Sunny, with a high near 95. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the morning.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind 3 to 8 mph.

Thursday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 102. West wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 75. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Light southwest wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday Night: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 75. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday: Showers and thunderstorms likely after noon. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Hottest temperatures on Tuesday:

Bridgeport/Stratford: 95 at 4:52 p.m.

New Haven: 96 at 12:52 p.m.

Danbury: 91 at 3:53 p.m.

And when is the coolest time of day?

Generally between 5 and 6 a.m. when temperatures are in the low to mid 70s. On Tuesday, at 5:52 a.m., Danbury was reporting a frosty 69 degees.

East winds around 5 knots, becoming south in the afternoon. Seas 1 foot or less.

Tides: High tide around 6:20 a.m. and around 7 p..m. Low tide around 12:30 p.m.

Water temperature at Bridgeport: 73 degrees.

UV index: A 9 (very high)

Air quality: Good.
