Heavy rain, flash flooding possible

Prepare to get wet with up to 2 inches of rain possible before it all ends Saturday morning.

From the National Weather Service:

“Heavy downpours will be possible tonight with a chance that flash flooding. The threat of flash flooding due to heavy downpours continues on Friday and possibly into a part of Friday night with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms in association with the passing of cold front that will move through the region.”

Not sure exactly what the NWS is saying with “scattered to numerous” showers?

Here’s the forecast:

Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. South wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Cloudy, with a high near 78. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

West wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10am. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. North wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 62.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 63.

So far, Bridgeport has gotten 25.09 inches; the average total at this point is 25.89 inches.

Danbury is further behind. The Hat City has gotten 24.64 inches while the normal year to date total is 30.77 inches.
