Happy New Year. That is if you love wintry weather with snow and very cold temperatures.

The National Weather Service is monitoring the possible development of a significant storm system. At this time, the NWS is fairly confident in some accumulating snow across the region, but the big question is “Just how much?”

The details will be refined as we get closer to Thursday/Friday, but there is some potential for a significant snowfall across portions of the area. Additionally, very low temperatures and gusty winds could make for dangerously cold conditions late Friday into Saturday morning.

In its 8:31 AM update, the NWS says:

“A prolonged period of snow is expected late Wednesday into Friday morning. At least 6 inches of snow is possible with blowing and blowing and drifting of snow due to strong winds.”

While this is a few days away and the forecast remains uncertain, now is the time to make sure you are prepared for a period of very cold and potentially snowy weather.

Here’s the forecast as it stands now. Stay tuned!
