The day after: What’s open, closed or delayed?

Southwestern Connecticut is digging out from a storm that left up to a foot of snow in some sections of the region.

Here’s a rundown of what’s open, delayed or closed:

Schools: Many school systems are closed or delayed. Schools closed include Milford, Danbury and Shelton For a complete list, click here.

Roads: Major roads like I-95, I-84 and the Merritt and Wilbur Cross parkways have been cleared or treated. Watch the exit and entrance ramps and give yourself plenty of time and space between vehicles. Secondary roads remain snow covered.

Metro-North: Planning to run on a regular weekday schedule, but the railroad has “scattered” delays up to 15 minutes. Metro-North urges commuters to listen for station announcements and check the MTA website at

Airports: Bradley Airport in Windsor Locks has 19 departures & 5 arrivals canceled. Runways in good shape. Call your carrier to check flight status. Same story for New York metro airports.

DMV: Department of Motor Vehicles today is cancelling all road tests until 10 a.m. today. Road tests will resume with the 10 a.m. scheduled appointments. The cancellation is due to poor and slippery driving conditions from expected snow. Anyone with a scheduled road test can call DMV to choose a new date. The number to call is 1-800-842-8222.

All DMV offices are open for business today. However, customers are advised to check the DMV website for any updates throughout the day.

Weather: The big story … very cold temperatures.

Widespread blowing snow and a slight chance of snow before 9am, then widespread blowing snow after 9am. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 15. Wind chill values as low as -17. Blustery, with a north wind 14 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tonight Partly cloudy, with a low around -4. Wind chill values as low as -13. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Courts: No delays expected at this point, but all jurors are cancelled for today.

Power outages: Good news here; no outages reported. For an update, check CL&P and United Illuminating.
