Tornado touches down in Conn.

Southwestern Connecticut was spared the severe weather that moved into New England on Sunday, but other parts of the state weren’t so lucky.

According to the Wolcott Police Department’s Facebook page, a tornado touched down just before 1 p.m. near Wolcott High School.

The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado.

As of 8:30 p.m., more than 9,000 Connecticut Light & Power customers were without power in Hartford and Tolland counties.

Thunderstorms are in the forecast Monday.
