Fans of the big St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York City can catch a train Saturday that will deliver them almost right to the heart o’ the line of march along Manhattan’s 5th Avenue.
Metro-North Railroad is adding four extra morning trains to its usual Saturday schedule designed to get spectators to the parade in time to catch the “stride of the Irish” as it hits the prime midtown area.
Three additional trains have been added in late afternoon to carry St. Pat’s celebrants back to old sod in southwestern Connecticut.
Be warned, however, Metro-North officials vow to keep the “spirit” of the day strictly non-alcoholic as far as their facilities are concerned, banning alcohol from all trains, railroad stations and passenger platforms that day. They say the no-booze ban will be enforced by police officers from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
