There’s a new way to pay taxes online in Westport.
The town has hired a new service, Official Payments, for online taxpaying, according to Tax Collector Peggy Klein.
“The credit card convenience fees have been reduced with the new provider and all credit cards, as well as electronic checks, may be used as a form of payment,” Klein said in a statement.
Official Payments charges a fee for its service. A fee calculator is available at the provider’s website — www.officialpayments.com — to assist in calculating the fee.
Tax payments can be paid by check and brought into the office or mailed in instead of using the online service, Klein said.
Using an online payment services “saves time for the town’s tax office, and also adds convenience for the taxpayer, who can pay property and other taxes through any computer,” Klein said.
“We’re up and running with the online service now,” Klein said. “But the pay-by-phone service will not be available immediately. We hope that we’ll be able to implement that service shortly.”
Tax bills are expected to be mailed out later this month, and complete information about payment options will be included with the bill. Further information is available at the town’s website, www.westportct.gov/paytaxes.
