One of our dancing divas warms up for class.

Yes, there are a number of dance studios in Fairfield County in which your child can be enrolled and learn to dance. They will learn the basic techniques and likely have a recital in the Spring. Why then should your little Diva or Dude dance at the Family Y? Here’s Y!

Our Fall Dance Classes at the Family Y are terrific!

First, there’s a huge assortment of offerings, including: kinder jazz, hip hop, pre ballet, ballet, pre-tap, tap, creative, petite, mini and junior company, teen/adult, musical theater, lyrical, modern…

Then there’s our promise that your child will get first-rate, inspirational instruction from our highly trained staff.

“I am so proud of the quality of our dance program; our teachers continue to study and learn with master teachers in order to bring what’s current to our students,” says Director of Dance Michele Conklin.

Your child will also be part of our Y Family and have complete access to our entire facility. So, as they master their ballet, hip hop, jazz movements, our dancers can work on their core strengthening at the fitness center, take a refreshing swim after rehearsal, and maybe even shoot some hoops with their friends in our gym.

Teen dancers can also attend any one of our exercise classes and perhaps demonstrate their dance skills during a zumba, ballet barre or body conditioning class. And, here’s an additional reason why you get more from the Y – if you have a family membership, you can use the facility for your own workout or swim while your little one is tripping the light fantastic.

For those who dream of being on ‘America’s Most Talented’ or ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ start out by enrolling in one of our newest, exciting dance classes: “Be In Glee” (for ages 9 and up); Kinder Company (kindergartners and 1st grade); Broadway Babies (pre-school).

Fall registration begins on Monday, August 8. Brochures with complete listings and descriptions of the classes are being mailed to Westport and Weston households and will also be available online soon at www.westporty.org.

Just remember that these classes are popular and fill up fast. We offer two semesters – Fall and Winter/Spring (January-June). It is a commitment worth making, especially when your child receives his or her dance costumes for the recital next spring. Bring the video camera and the box of tissues! :-)

  1. I agree that the Y is a great place to enroll kids for dancing and start them off with a good base in the world of dancing
