Family Y’s Giving Tree Makes Holiday Wishes Come True

Aquatic Director Nicole Turechek trims our Giving Tree.

The Westport Weston Family Y’s Holiday Giving Tree is now on display in the Stauffer pool lobby, with some very special trimmings.

In this season of giving, we invite Y families (and other secret Santa’s helpers) to select a gift-request ornament from our tree and make someone’s holiday wish come true.  This year the Family Y will be collecting all types of gift cards (Wal-Mart, Target, Stop & Shop, etc.).

We ask that they be brought to the Member Services Desk by December 18so that we can present them by Friday, Dec. 21, to our leading community partners – Westport’s Department of Human Services and Weston’s Department of Social Services.

Weston Social Services is working with approximately 100 households in financial need this holiday season, says its director, Charlene Chiang Hillman. “We would be very grateful for any contribution to our Holiday Program to provide gift cards for these families and individual senior residents.  Gift cards from Wal-Mart, CVS or Amazon are the most requested.”

Charlene and her counterpart in Westport, Patty Haberstroh. will  present these special gifts to deserving local individuals and families. (Our Family Y also makes possible free or subsidized memberships and camp scholarships for Westport Human Services and Weston Social Services to utilize as they work with local families identified as in need.)

Thank you for helping us help others, and a special holiday shout-out to the Y’s Aquatics Department, which originated this wonderful idea several years ago. It’s since become an honored tradition here at our Family Y.

“The Family Y is pleased to open our hearts to help any and all,” says Aquatic Director Nicole Turechek, coordinator of this year’s Giving Tree effort.
