The Westport Weston Family Y has scheduled its third informational session about the status of the construction of the new Y facility at our 32-acre Mahackeno campus north of downtown Westport. The meeting, which is open to the public, will take place on Tuesday, July 16, at 7:30 pm in the 2nd floor Board Room of the Family Y’s facility at 59 Post Road East in Westport.
Family Y staff, volunteer leaders and construction partners will provide updates of the building project, which began six months ago and is currently on schedule and on budget. The new Y facility is scheduled to open in the fall of 2014.
With the foundation nearly complete, workers are erecting the steel framework of the 54,000 sq. ft. facility, which include a 10-lane, 25-yard lap pool and adjacent warm-water family/teaching/therapeutic pool; expansive Health & Wellness Center; multi-purpose Gymnasium; three group-fitness studios; a Child Watch/Kids’ Adventure Gym area; five locker rooms, including one for those with dependent care; and other amenities of a modern, family-oriented Y facility. Work crews are also preparing for the installation of the on-site wastewater treatment facility, as approved by local and state authorities.
Additionally, construction has commenced on the traffic mitigation project at the Exit 41 interchange of the Merritt Parkway and Connector Road from State Route 33 (Wilton Road) to the Y’s property.
