The Westport Weston Family Y will celebrate an important milestone in the construction of its new facility at its Mahackeno campus this week: On Wednesday, July 31, at 1 pm, ironworkers from United Steel will “top off” the building by installing the crowning piece of steel within the structure’s framework.
The 20-ft. steel beam to be put in place has been signed by Y staff, volunteer leaders, major donors to its capital campaign, and the Y’s construction partners in the $38.5 million project to build a modern new center of health, wellness and fellowship for our community.
Family Y members and supporters are welcome to join us at this landmark ceremony, which will be attended by many of the Y’s staff, volunteer leaders and construction partners who have been instrumental in our Y’s “Building What Matters” campaign to fund and construct the facility at the Y’s 32-acre Mahackeno campus, longtime home of our summer day camp.
Attendees will get a great look at the latest progress on the construction of the new facility, which will begin as a 54,000 sq. ft. building with all the amenities of a modern new Y. Construction began in January 2013 and is expected to be completed in September 2014.
If you are interested in joining us on Wednesday at 1 pm, please send Y Development Associate Susie Haydon an email at email@example.com or call her at 203-226-8981, ext. 106, to help us with our planning. Parking is available in the commuter parking lot adjacent to the northbound on/off ramp of Exit 41 of the Merritt Parkway.
We’ll be issuing a more complete construction update, with the latest photos, following the Topping Off ceremony on Wednesday, but in the meantime, here are a few more photos of our new Y, taken Monday, July 29. Enjoy the views!
