Nearly a century ago, local philanthropist Edward T. Bedford created for our community a safe and welcoming “home away from home” that would promote healthy lifestyles and wholesome values for young men. Through the dedication and generosity of succeeding generations of volunteers and benefactors, our Family Y has grown and evolved with the community it serves.
Today, the Westport Weston Family YMCA enriches the community by developing and nurturing the potential of every individual — men and women of all ages — promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. Through its programs and services promoting the shared values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility, the Y seeks to develop the whole person in mind, body and spirit.
We partner with an unparalleled array of other civic groups, connecting people of all ages and backgrounds to bridge the gaps in community needs. And as a charitable, nonprofit organization, we endeavor to serve all, regardless of financial capacity or physical capability.
The “Who, What, When — and Y” blog seeks to highlight programs, activities and issues of interest not only to Family Y members but to all residents of the communities it serves. Contributors to the blog will include Family Y staffers, volunteers and members; Family Y Communications Director Scott Smith will serve as the administrator.
