Report: Danbury Hospital CFO arrested on federal fraud charges

by:

The Times-Tribune in Scranton, Pennsylvania is reporting that Danbury Hospital CFO William Roe was arrested on federal wire fraud and interstate transport of stolen funds charges on Aug. 17 – and has since been arrested on still more charges.

The government alleges that Roe was in contact with Danbury Hospital CEO Dr. John Murphy just hours after his arrest on federal wire fraud and interstate transport of stolen funds charges.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Rahul Kale told The Times-Tribune that prosecutors believe Roe’s communication with Muphy amounts to witness tampering and obstruction of justice.

More from The Times-Tribune:

Despite the warnings, Mr. Roe placed hourly phone calls to Dr. Murphy and fired off a series of e-mails, including one saying he wanted the case against him to “go away,” prosecutors said.

In one e-mail sent four hours after his arraignment, Mr. Roe wrote to Dr. Murphy, “Let’s talk, if you don’t believe we can work something out. I’d really like to get the prison option out of the way.”

The e-mail refers to money Mr. Roe apparently owes the hospital and suggests the hospital garnish his salary to “pay back Danbury.”

Roe was appointed CFO at Danbury Hospital in March 2009, according to The Times-Tribune.

Its strange a newspaper doesn’t print a story like like this for 13 days after the fact. These are not good times for newspapers. I think the editors just added a new nail to the Newstime coffin.

too bad this fellow isn’t a wall street banker…he would have been
bailed out and given a bonus as well

“Due to rising costs” is a common excuse for passing on increasing costs to the consumer, so news like this stings quite a bit at a time when the country is trying to reign in healthcare costs.

It is frustrating when many neighborhood practices in the area have been absorbed into Danbury Hospital’s medical group. It seems they have become the only game in town.

I fail to understand how a Scranton, PA newspaper scoops the Danbury News-Times on a major news event regarding Danbury Hospital. I understand the arrested CFO is the former CFO of Scranton’s hospital, but he’s been in Danbury since March 2009…and the arrest happened August 17! Even if the Scranton paper is part of the Hearst organization, I think this reflects poorly on the already questionable journalistic abilities of the editor and journalists at the News-Times. Really, News-Times? You couldn’t be first to report on something so significant and in your own backyard?!?

take his home and anything else he has until the debt is paid back. convict him as a felon and send him out of town. let’s see how long it takes him to secure housing and a job in the big money market with a convicted felon on his resume

Well, well so call Dr Moebius. Is that your real name? You don’t show up as a doctor on the hospital list. If your not happy there leave! How dare a doctor tell us middle class to stand up and kill the rich. Those words should get you fired if not arrested. There are ways to express your feelings without threatening others with their lives. I hope I never need your services!

Is this a surprise? The entire hospital staff is crooked and always has been.

  9. Dr. Moebius says:

All this corruption across all fields of business and politics in America – this disease has destroyed our country (well, for the Middle Class). The wealthy elite are nothing more than white collar criminals, and I for one want to see them pay. We have to stop letting them get away with it. We need public hangings.

There needs to be real penalties against this continued fraudulent behavior, or the Middle Class will have to rise up and literally kill the rich, just to get fairness, but no, these rich, sickly greedy bastards keep stealing from everyone. I KNEW there was something up when I saw Danbury’s Annual Report – they billed Medicare $2B, received only $1B, and with their other income, made $400M PROFIT on their business. What’s wrong with this picture?

Let’s get the ropes and the horses ready, so we can get the lynch mobs together. This is the only thing that has a chance of thwarting these men.
