This sounds like a really great local community initiative! I really do hope that they are successful in encouraging more people to get screened for colorectal cancer this month. We added a new post in honor of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month this month, as we hope to provide some more information concerning the benefits of these screening tests for anyone who may be interested. This disease remains the second-leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States, but many of these deaths can be prevented. It all starts with better education of the risks for colorectal cancer and more awareness of what you can do to protect yourself.

The Last Days of Summer, by Steve Kluger. It’s about the relationship between a major league baseball player and a boy growing up in Brooklyn in the 1940s, told through their correspondence. It’s a hilarious novel, much better than I made it sound here.

Also, anything by Dave Barry or the late Lewis Grizzard.

Bennie — See, I never use the coat rack, either. It’s interesting that, in a society that’s increasingly cynical, this is a venue where many seem to be more trusting than perhaps they should be. I wonder why this is.

Amanda – this happens at my gym too and I don’t get it either. One day a friend hung up her jacket on the coat rack (meant for bulky winter coats) and left her keys in the pocket (on purpose). Don’t ya know it someone stole her jacket and with it her keys. She now locks up everything in a locker.

The books are interesting because its a ‘coming of age’ tale about re-integrating the elderly into a futuristic military in return, they get their youth back; at a price. Check them out. Been out for a few years already.

I’m surprised that this isn’t an ongoing thing. Shouldn’t stores always be able to apply to be WIC vendors? If the cutoff for applying is the end of the month, when is the next time they’ll be able to apply?
