Christmas pomegranate

What was the most exciting part of Christmas here in the EatDrink household? Was it a visit from Santa, complete with a Furby? Or was it piles of new Pokemon cards? No, for EatDrink Junior it was a pomegranate. “Look what I got!” he yelled as he ran in from a trip to the grocery store. He held out the big, red orb. Fantastic, I thought. What are we going to do with that?

I’d never actually conquered a pomegranate on my own before, so I turned to YouTube to find out what to do. There, I learned a great technique for removing the tiny seeds. Just split the fruit open and put the pieces in a bowl of cold water. The seeds will sink and the membrane will float. It actually worked! EatDrink Junior was unsure about the texture of the seeds, so we decided to make juice. Thanks to YouTube again, I found that if you put the seeds in a Ziploc bag and roll over it with a rolling pin, you’ll make juice. Then you just have to snip a tiny hole in the bottom of the bag and pour it into a glass. It was healthy, delicious, provided about an hour’s worth of entertainment and $48 less than a Furby.
