This Saturday (April 21), the Westport Beautification Committee and Parks & Rec Department are sponsoring Westport’s annual Green-up Day.
Sixty local organizations and community groups have been asked to pick up trash in specially designated area.
Every year, the Staples boys soccer team gets a letter. We’re assigned to Loeffler Field — where the team I coach plays our games, at Staples.
Every year, I head up there. I pick up a few stray pieces of litter on our terrace, and a couple of gum wrappers that have floated onto the grass.
It’s pretty easy. Loeffler Field is in nice shape.
But the rest of you: get working!
(The Green-up Westport Day committees also asks every Westport citizen to clean up litter along their street or any public space. Free trash bags can be picked up on Saturday, between 9 and 11 a.m. at Jesup Green, where the Beautification Committee volunteers will conduct their own cleanup.)
