One of the most under-reported stories in Sandy’s aftermath is the time it’s taking Main Street stores to reopen.
Some still remain shut.
With Black Friday just 4 days away, this could be one of the toughest holiday seasons in Westport memory.
We often complain about downtown traffic. We bemoan the increasing number of national chain stores, and the death of mom-and-pop shops.
But Main Street is the commercial engine of Westport, and the upcoming month drives Main Street.
Let’s hope the shuttered stores open soon. Then it will indeed be a Merry Christmas to all — and a Happy Hanukkah too.
