Westport READS — To You

All month long, “WestportREADS.” Thanks to the library, people throughout town are reading The Great Gatsby. There are talks about him, screenings of the movie, even an event at F. Scott Fitzgerald’s old house on South Compo Road.

Next week, though, WestportREADS turns into WestportREADS To Me.

A group of celebrities will read the 1st 2 chapters of Gatsby out loud. It’s a fun idea — and one that emphasizes the idea that, even if you read the classic book back in high school, it’s worth revisiting. Hearing part of it out loud may motivate Westporters to go back and finish it on their own.

The list of “celebrities” includes first selectman Gordon Joseloff, library director Maxine Bleiweis, Staples principal John Dodig, actress Patricia Kalember, Gatsby expert Dr. Gerry Kuroghlian, and Staples English instructor Dan Geraghty.

Apparently Leo DiCaprio was unavailable.
