Make A Difference — And Make $10,000

|

Last October, during the week-long Make A Difference Day project, Westport mobilized 1,500 volunteers. They worked on 19 projects, here and in nearby communities.

They collected socks for the homeless; assembled 50 comfort bags for abused women, 50 toiletry bags for the homeless, and 20 arts and crafts bags for needy children; collected Halloween costumes for needy kids; created community urban gardens in Bridgeport; planted bulbs and cleaned up a domestic violence shelter; made dog toys for guide dogs, and filled empty pantry shelves.

Based on that — and more — Westport now has a chance to win a $10,000 donation to a charity of our choice.

We’re a finalist for the 2013 Make A Difference Day All-Star Award, sponsored by The Gannett Foundation and USA Weekend magazine.

The national honoree will be selected online, by popular vote.  It begins Friday, March 1 and continues through March 10 at makeadifferenceday.com. One vote per person per day is allowed.
