Westport Y Selected As Enrollment Site For Major Cancer Study

Connecticut leads the country in breast cancer cases per capita. We also have the 2nd-lowest rate of obesity in the country.

Both statistics are important, in the wake of news that the Westport Weston Family Y has been selected by the American Cancer Society as an enrollment site for volunteers to participate in a major new cancer prevention study.

Cancer Prevention Study-3 is a long-term research project that’s the nation’s largest study of the causes of cancer. Eligible participants must be between 30 and 65 years old; never been diagnosed with cancer (except basal or squamous cell skin cancer), and be willing to make a long-term commitment to the study, which involves completing periodic follow-up surveys at home.

The study begins with an appointment at the Y on Tuesday, November 19, between 8 a.m. and noon. To enroll, click here or call 888-604-5888.

It’s the “Y’s” thing to do.
