Young Women’s League Recruiting New Members

|

YWL

In September and January of each year, the Young Women’s League of New Canaan welcomes new members to join its ranks.

The YWL is a group of dedicated women who are committed to enriching the community through volunteer service and fundraising efforts.  The League hosts local favorites such as the Holiday Market held at Waveny each November, the New Canaan Easter Egg Hunt and a Spring Fashion Show.  This Fall the YWL will also host a charity fundraiser in partnership with SoulCycle, the proceeds of which will go to the YWL Giving Fund, which this year will be supporting Fairfield county organizations that meet the YWL charitable giving theme of “Strong Women Make Strong Communities.”

In addition to fundraising, the YWL organizes volunteer opportunities for its members to serve various organizations in and around New Canaan, such as the George Washington Carver Center, the Malta House, the Open Door Shelter, Operation Hope, Person-to-Person, and Staying Put in New Canaan.

“Joining the league is a great way for women, especially those new to the community, to make friends while getting an overview of area organizations,” said President Amy Fields.  “Several activities are planned for new members to get acquainted with our diverse group of members. We pride ourselves on having fun while serving the local community.”

Finally the YWL promotes the social, cultural and educational interests of its members, in part, through monthly membership meetings at Waveny House.  Each meeting consists of three parts: social, business review and an invited speaker or activity.  The meetings rotate between evening and day to accommodate the diverse membership of the league.

“We have a great line-up of activities for the year,” said Programs Chair Rozena Verda, “everything from parenting experts to life coaching to wreath decorating to even a pre-holiday panel of town merchants sharing “hot” gift ideas.”

The YWL of New Canaan welcomes all women who are interested in making a positive impact in their community and encourages interested women of any age to join.  The YWL will host an informational meeting on September 23rd.  If you would like to learn more please email New Member Chair Anna Diamantis at newmembers@ywlnewcanaan.org or visit ywlnewcanaan.org.
