The New Year brings even more good reasons to become a member of the Bruce Museum. Bruce Experiences, a series of free lectures and special events for Museum members, continues with a Drawing Workshop on Wednesday, January 15, 6:30-8:00 pm.
Led by teaching artist Grayson Kennedy, the evening drawing course will focus on a simple 1-point perspective, choosing from objects in the Collecting Reimagined: A 2D Curiosity Cabinet exhibition. Materials, wine/beer and light snacks will be provided. Doors open at 6:15 pm with light snacks and drinks available. The workshop will begin promptly at 6:30 pm.
Curator H.S. Miller, Zvi Grunberg Resident Fellow 2019-20, will provide a brief introduction to the exhibition and a historical overview of cabinets of curiosities. “The objects on display are meant to evoke a sense of marvel and wonder in the viewer. I’m excited to see how our members capture their reactions to the Bruce Museum’s curiosities in their drawings.”
Museum members are requested to register in advance at brucemuseum.org or by calling 203-413-6764. New members are welcome to join at the door.
To join the Bruce Museum and receive year-round benefits, please click here. Museum members have free access to the dozen or more exhibitions each year, as well as two annual outdoor festivals – one in the fall for fine art, the other in the spring for crafts. Belonging to the Bruce as a member also gives you access to other art and science institutions in the area.
For families, the Museum offers an array of programming for children, among them Bruce Beginnings for preschoolers, Art Adventures and Sunday Science for older kids, and docent-led Gallery Tours on weekends for the entire family. Members also receive a 10% discount in the popular and well-stocked Museum Store.
Membership also brings the opportunity to celebrate exhibition openings with fellow Museum members. On Tuesday, February 4, 2020, the Bruce is hosting an after-hours opening reception for two eagerly awaited exhibitions in the newly renovated changing gallery spaces: On the Edge of the World: Masterworks by Laurits Andersen Ring from SMK—the National Gallery of Denmark and Under the Skin, which highlights recent scientific discoveries through a combination of remarkable imagery and real biological specimens. To register for the All Members Opening, visit this page at brucemuseum.org.
For those who seek an even closer connection with the Bruce, there’s our Patron membership ($250 a year; $130 tax deductible), which includes two invitations (with two guest passes) to four exhibition openings, including an exclusive preview of the new exhibitions of art and science on Friday, January 31, 7:00 – 8:30 pm.
To join us at the Patron Opening for the L.A. Ring and Under the Skin exhibitions (and for an exclusive first look at the newly renovated galleries), visit this page at brucemuseum.org or contact Membership Manager Laura Freeman at email@example.com or 203-413-6764.
There are many good reasons to become a part of a community based, world-class institution like the Bruce Museum, especially as the Museum proceeds with its transformative construction project. For more information about the campaign for the New Bruce, visit NewBruce.org.
