Katy Perry texts with Russell Wilson, will root for Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX

Pop singer Katy Perry said she text-messages with Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and will be rooting for Seattle in the Super Bowl.

Perry, who is headlining the halftime show Sunday, said Thursday she asked Wilson what he eats to prepare for a big game. She was expecting him to answer with some healthy tips, but he instead suggested she eat cheeseburgers and pizza.

“I love the Seahawks because of Russell Wilson, so I think I’m gonna go for them on Sunday,” Perry said at a halftime-show press conference Thursday in Phoenix.

Perry, 30, hinted at some surprises in Sunday’s halftime show. She said it will somehow involve lions and sharks, pledged that her entrance will be like nothing we’ve seen, and promised that the 100-plus million people watching the show Sunday will be shocked by a surprise female guest.

“Nothing in my halftime performance will be deflated,” Perry said, referring with a wink to the New England Patriots’ “Deflategate” controversy.

At some point in Thursday’s conference, someone asked Perry whether she had her eye on any of the football players this weekend.

“I’m just here so I don’t get fined,” she replied.

The questioner followed up, saying she could introduce Perry to Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch.

“I’m just here so I don’t get fined,” Perry repeated to big laughter from the crowd.
