First annual Newtown Film Festival calls for submissions

The first annual Newtown Film Festival will take place Sept. 18-20 and submissions are now welcome. A collection of family-friendly, feel-good feature films, shorts,  student shorts  and documentaries will be shown at Edmond Town Hall Theater during this three-day event.

The Newtown Film Fest (NFF) is the brainchild of Newtown native Cristin Carlin, seen in the photo above. “I’m so excited to be bringing this event to my hometown, which never ceased to nurture my creative spirit growing up,” said executive director Carlin. “I hope this festival will inspire a whole new generation of artists to go out and create something they love.”

Also included will be film-oriented workshops, panels, and activities that promote the family and educational side of film.If you, or someone you know is interested in showcasing your work at NFF, visit

All films must be original content and suitable for all audiences. The goal is to bring the community together through family and youth-oriented films. The selected films will fit the theme of being family-friendly and nonviolent. The hope is to promote the idea that stories can be told without excessive violence and explicit material by focusing on the nature of goodwill.

Organizers would like to hear from local businesses that are interested in partnering with NFF to help sponsor food, drinks, and giveaways.  For further details, send an email to, titled Sponsorship Inquiry .
