Milford, Norwalk oyster festivals announce headliners

The Milford and Norwalk oyster festivals have announced the entertainment headliners for this year’s events.

In Milford, the Gin Blossoms top the bill, along with Grammy-nominated Fastball and The Rembrandts.

In Norwalk, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, Dennis DeYoung and the Music of STYX and Smash Mouth are the entertainment headliners.

DATE: Saturday, Aug. 15, 10 AM to 6 PM

LOCATION: Fowler Field, the Milford Green and Lisman Landing, all in downtown Milford.



Gin Blossoms: The Arizona-based band burst onto the music scene in the early 1990s. Their trademark chiming guitars, introspective lyricism and melodies helped boast there sales to over 10 million in the U.S. alone.”

The band’s hits that include “Follow You Down,” “Until I fall Away,” “As Long as it Matters,” “Hey Jealousy,” “Learning the Hard Way,” “Till I Hear it from You,” “Allison Road,” “Found Out About You,” “Miss Disarray,” and “Long Time Gone.”

Fastball: The band will be playing their chart topping hits including “The Way,” “Out of My Head,” and “Fire Escape” as well as a sampling of new music.

The Rembrandts:  In addition to performing their hits “That’s Just The Way It Is Baby,” I’ll Be There For You” and “Johnny Have You Seen Her,” the band will celebrate the 20 year anniversary of one of the most successful TV theme songs in TV history, “Friends.” The Rembrandts will also preview new music from their sixth studio album.

The actual times of the bands’ performance on Saturday, Aug. 15 have not yet been announced.


DATES: Friday, Sept. 11, 6 to 11 PM; Saturday, Sept. 12, 11 AM to 11 PM; and Sunday, Sept. 13, 11 AM to 8 PM.

LOCATION: Veterans Memorial Park.

ADMISSION: $10 on Sept. 11; $12 on Sept. 12 and 13. Seniors $10 all days; children 5-12 are $5; and U.S. military personnel on active duty are (must show ID).

John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band: An American rock’n’roll band from Rhode Island that began its career in the early 1970’s and achieved mainstream success in the 1980’s with the release of a pairing of their now-classic songs “Wild Summer Nights” and “Tender Years”. They achieved international success with the soundtrack to the movie “Eddie & The Cruisers” that produced a Top 10 hit, “On the Dark Side”. Their follow-up album produced their second number one single on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, “Tough All Over”. More recently, they have placed new songs in the soundtracks of several major motion pictures including “Jersey Girl” and “There’s Something About Mary”. John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band remains a top concert attraction, touring nationally annually.

Dennis DeYoung, The Music of STYX: He is a founding member of STYX and the lead singer and writer on seven of the band’s eight Top Ten Hits including “Lady,” “Come Sail Away,” “Babe,” “The Best of Times” and “Mr. Roboto.” He will perform with six-piece band and will showcases all of the STYX greatest hits, spanning the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

Performance date: Saturday, Sept. 12. Time to be announced.

Smash Mouth: The band produced such memorable songs as “All-Star,” “Walkin’ on the Sun,” “Then the Morning Comes,” and “I’m a Believer” was formed in 1994.

The band was signed to Interscope Records in 1997. Smash Mouth’s major-label debut “Fush Yu Mang” went more than double platinum and set the table for what most consider their masterpiece, the brilliant follow-up album. That album, “Astrolounge,” included three top-10 hits (“All-Star,” “Then the Morning Comes,” and “Can’t Get Enough Of You Baby,”) and approached quadruple platinum status. Smash Mouth’s third Interscope release featured “Pacific Coast Party” and the smash hit “I’m a Believer”. Around this time, Smash Mouth crossed over to the film world by providing the musical heart of the soundtrack for “Shrek” and making a cameo appearance in the movie “Rat Race”. In recent years, Smash Mouth has focused on touring and entertaining troops in Japan, Guam, Guantanamo Bay, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
