A team of students from Middlesex Middle School in Darien placed first in their division in the Stackable Structure challenge portion of the 34th Annual CT State Tournament for Odyssey of the Mind, an international creative problem solving program.

The team members are Richard Huang, Ben Huffman, Alexander Gu, Jacob Grimm, Ethan Zhang, Tala Garcia, and Alex Hu.

The win allows them to compete in the upcoming World Finals taking place at Michigan State University in late May. This is the third consecutive year a Middlesex team has made it to the world finals in the Stackable Structure challenge.

The team’s 18 gram structure, made of only balsa wood and glue was able to support 850 pounds before breaking.
