I am a little concerned about this press conference. I hope the African American leaders were fully briefed by Lamont about the circumstances surrounding the lawsuit and out-of-court settlement. I thought Malloy’s real point was that his record is mostly public and Lamont’s has mostly been withheld – tax records, employment practices, etc. As a union activist, I know that confidentiality agreements are mostly insisted upon by the employer NOT the employee. There are, of course, many legitimate, non-nefarious reasons to have a confidentiality agreement, but as a candidate for public office the lack of disclosure is a legitimate campaign issue.

It is also somewhat troubling to me, since I do consider myself a progressive, that the hereditary millionaire from Greenwich, ( not considered a melting-pot community) non-union employer is the “true” progressive in the race – in contrast to Malloy who grew up in a large middle class family in a city with some diversity who actually managed a unionized workforce.
