The “National Coalition for Safer Roads” web just was just created within the last week. 99 and 44/100ths% says it is a front for the Private Corporation who will sell the cameras to the cities, keep 85% of the so-called “fines”, and then convince the city to shorten the yellow lights when they feel they aren’t making enough money to buy their CEO a bigger yacht.

The reason that people run red lights is because the current laws are not enforced. Same reason that people speed. Same reason that they talk on their cell phones while driving.

One police chief went on record saying that he was in favor of it. Presumably some portion of his staffing budget is to enforce current laws. How about if his budget it reduced by the amount that is supposed to be used for enforcement of red light laws. I’ll bet he won’t be so in favor of it then.

The people of CT love their taxes, so why wouldn’t they clamor for another one? Another revenue stream for the politicians to squander on more useless @#$%&. I can’t wait to move out of this @#$%& state.

In city after city, and state after state, RLCs have proven ineffective at reducing accidents overall, and in fact, the number of accidents actually goes UP in many cases. This is because many motorists end up slamming on their brakes at the last instant when they sense a violation and they end up causing a rear-end collision. Usually, the cameras are removed after 2-3 years.

The only people making money off these cameras are the companies that sell, install and maintain the equipment and managed the billing and collecting processes.

Ken, let’s not forget that good ol Roy O was a former partner at Global Strategy Group, and GSG lists Malloy, Jepsen and the CT Democratic Party among their clients on their website. So consider the source.
