Speaker of the House taking wait-and-see attitude on Rep. Christina Ayala’s latest lover’s triangle soap opera

Speaker of the House J. Brendan Sharkey, D-Hamden, said Tuesday he wants to wait and see how the latest chapter in freshman Rep. Christina Ayala’s domestic/legal problems pans out before he decides on possible ramifications. Ayala, who cleared a hit-and-run case in state Superior Court, was the target of a recent car fire allegedly set by her ex. Bridgeport police are now investigating a report that Ayala allegedly assaulted the ex’s new girlfriend.

“The allegations are very disturbing, but we need to wait for the results of the investigation by the Bridgeport police before reaching any conclusions,” Sharkey said in a statement from the House Democrat’s office. “It is important that elected officials maintain a high standard of conduct.”
