Thanks for a great and informative article! If Connecticut tourism is the focus, then Connecticut should focus on saving it’s historical homes. Gustav Whitehead has a monument in Fairfield, yet the town of Fairfield is not doing everything in their power to save Gustav Whitehead’s historic home located on Alvin Street. The ten day ordinance is up on Saturday, April 26th, the day Whitehead’s home is scheduled to be demolished, also the same day that Andrew Warde High School is displaying a replica of Whitehead’s plane for the public, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturday Aug 17, Discovery Museum in Bridgeport will be celebrating Whitehead’s flight. Governor Malloy passed House bill No. 6671 – Powered Flight Day to honor the 1st powered flight by Gustav Whitehead. To learn that Governor Malloy is focusing on Connecticut tourism makes me hopeful that he will not stand by while yet another historical Connecticut home is destroyed. Preserving the history of our great state is one of the cornerstones of building Connecticut’s tourism industry, as well as making that history a tangible, educational experience for generations to come!
