So while we wait, at golf courses and football games, for the boys to come back from Nova Scotia… (And if you haven’t, please read the introduction to this here site.)
A little update on where selected former Sound Tigers have landed for this year:
- Jeff Hamilton and Ray Giroux have taken their Yale educations off to Russia, where they’ll play for AK Bars Kazan. For fun, run the announcement through Babelfish.
- Eurohockey.net reports Kevin Bolibruck is on a tryout with Ilves Tampere in Finland, and of course Justin Mapletoft is now with Jokerit.
- Mini-exodus to Germany: Brendan Yarema is with Augsburg, Ryan Kraft plays for Kassel, and Ingolstadt has a third of a 2001-02 defense reunion, with both Chris Armstrong and Ken Sutton there. (Ingolstadt also has former Beast of New Haven co-captain Craig Ferguson.)
- There’s another mini-reunion in England, where Graham Belak, Evan Cheverie and Jeff Hutchins are all playing for Coventry.
- All kinds of goalies in Russia: Dusan Salficky is in Voskresensk, Steve Valiquette plays for Yaroslavl, and Dieter Kochan is in Novosibirsk.
- More Germany, non-Sound Tigers but still local: former Beast standout Herbert Vasiljevs (betcha watching him kill penalties is still worth the price of admission) and Trumbull’s own Ted Drury are playing for Krefeld.
- Brandon Smith re-upped with Rochester, and goalie Scott Stirling will join him.
- And former BST director of hockey ops Gordie Clark is now the New York Rangers’ chief amateur scout; he’d been a pro scout for them.
Hey, there are about 100 ex-Tigers now outside the Islanders organization (and I did say “selected”). Want to update us on your favorite? That’s what comments are for.
