‘X’ marks the spot

It’s a shame Jeremy Colliton wasn’t here. He’d be the one to go to after Bridgeport gets back in the playoffs, since he was the only regular who was here then and has been here through the two quiet springs. There’s Pat Bingham, who was sent away for a year before coming back. There’s John Sullo, who was probably as aggravated as anyone about going home in mid-April. And Dustin Kohn made a cameo that spring. But of the guys who’re here, that’s it. Of the 28 players listed on the game-notes lineup tonight, only Colliton, Kohn and Jason Pitton were even on the Islanders’ reserve list on April 29, 2006.

It has been a while. Mark Wotton alluded tonight to the idea that it had been a foregone conclusion for a good while, especially after they got hot again in February. (And on second thought, I’m sorry I didn’t bring up Feb. 8 in the paper.) And yeah, it was. But sometimes funny things happen on the way to foregone conclusions.

Not this time.

…..

So it’s basically a two-tiered division again. Hershey needs eight points to clinch the division, six points to finish ahead of Bridgeport (or five with two wins/losses, meaning the Bears could do it with a regulation win Friday if they take at least a point Wednesday at Norfolk.) Wilkes-Barre has two games in hand on the Sound Tigers and still plays Hershey twice, which could still throw a little monkey wrench into this division.

Bingo, meanwhile, needs 11 points to eliminate Philadelphia, which isn’t going away. The Senators are the only non-BPT/HER team that could still miraculously finish ahead of the Penguins.

Eric Cairns helping out behind the bench again. Looking pretty comfortable back there.

AHL awards begin coming out tomorrow. Nathan Lawson is an all-rookie candidate.

Joel Rechlicz feature from Greg Logan, who also reports that Mark Streit is out. There was no immediate word here who’d be going up. Good Tambellini-Nielsen story from Chris Botta.

You know what was going through my head every time Jamie McBain touched the puck, right?

Christian Hanson signed with the Leafs.

After getting shoveled back to Lowell, Scott Clemmensen is New Jersey’s Masterton Trophy nominee.

And RIP, Andy Hallett.
